Dr. Shih's father fell seriously ill when he was a child. The skill of the surgeon who saved his life taught him how easily a treatment can transform the lives of patients and their families. When he grew up and became an ophthalmologist, he learned how sight can be saved in as few as 15 minutes.
"From birth to eight years old is the golden period for children's visual development. Tragically, many families fail to seek proper and timely treatment during this window." He said. Early access to eye care services ultimately makes all the difference!
He has recently shared ophthalmology skills with hundreds of trainee doctors via Orbis’s online telemedicine platform Cybersight. In preparing for the lectures, it struck him that despite performing lots of cataract surgeries in his career, there are still ways to enhance his surgical skills when facing more complex cases.
