Legacy Giving

Legacy Giving, Planned Gifts, Charitable Bequests & Deferred Giving

We all want to take charge of our wealth, in order to protect ourselves and our family. Before we are gone, we should also start early in planning the legacy we want to leave for our loved ones and future generations.

During the webinar conducted on November 26, Prof. Albert So, Chairman of Hong Kong Mediation and Arbitration Centre, discussed the importance of legacy planning. Through case studies, he shared with us how to prepare an effective will and briefly introduced the estate handling procedures. If you are interested in leaving a legacy gift or a deferred giving for restoring sight, Prof. So’s sharing would likely inspire you too.

It’s Easy to Leave a Planned Legacy Gift

While your will is a private matter, it will help us enormously in our future planning if you let us know that you are planning on legacy donation. Please download our legacy gift reply form, complete and return it to Orbis at Unit C, 5/F, Infotech Centre, 21 Hung To Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, or fax to 2877-1297.

You will have a clear and precise picture of how planned gifts, including yours, will be utilized in our global efforts through our regularly published newsletters as well as annual reports. In addition, you can also look forward to witnessing and participating in Orbis’ legacy giving programs first hand.

Save Sight and Transform Patients’ Lives Through Charitable Bequests:

General Bequest

General bequests are legacies left to certain people or causes that come from the general value of the estate. Your executors will be given the flexibility to decide from which source the funds are to be paid.

Sample wordings:

"I give the sum of HK$______, free of all taxes and duties, to Project Orbis International, Inc. of Unit A on 3/F and Units A, C and F on 5/F of Infotech Centre, 21 Hung To Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon for its general charitable purposes. I direct that the official receipt from the said charity shall be sufficient discharge to my executors and that the said gift shall be paid exclusively from my Hong Kong situated estate."

Specific Bequest

A specific bequest is a gift (bequest) or a specific item or asset to a named person or entity. You may wish to leave Orbis or other charities a percentage of your life insurance policy, as an example of charitable bequests.

Sample wordings:

"I give the sum of HK$_______, free of all taxes and duties, to Project Orbis International, Inc. of Unit A on 3/F and Units A, C and F on 5/F of Infotech Centre, 21 Hung To Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon for its general charitable purposes to be paid from my life insurance policy (Ref No. _______________). I direct that the official receipt from the said charity shall be sufficient discharge to my executors."

Residuary Bequest

Residuary bequests are honoured after all other bequests to families have been made and all expenses and taxes have been paid from your estate.

Sample wordings:

"I give ___ percent of the residue of my estate absolutely to Project Orbis International, Inc of Unit A on 3/F and Units A, C and F on 5/F of Infotech Centre, 21 Hung To Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon for its general charitable purposes. I direct that the official receipt from the said charity shall be sufficient discharge to my executors."

Contingent Bequest

Contingent bequest is a gift that takes effect only if certain conditions are met. For example, if the primary beneficiary or beneficiaries of the bequest predecease you, and you may wish to indicate your next choice through a contingency designation.

Sample wordings:

"I give all the rest residue and remainder of my estate to ___________, if he or she survives me. If not, I give HK$_________, free of all taxes and duties, to Project Orbis International, Inc of Unit A on 3/F and Units A, C and F on 5/F of Infotech Centre, 21 Hung To Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon for its general charitable purposes and I give the remainder of my estate to __________. I direct that the official receipt from the said charity shall be sufficient discharge to my executors."

Making charitable bequests in your will is easy. In doing so, you can transform the lives of thousands. Please call 2508-7003 for Ms. Elaine Lau or 2508-7008 for Ms. Tephenie Lee to learn more about legacy donation and giving in general.

Pay Tribute

Tribute gifts to Orbis can be a deeply gratifying way to recognize someone that touched your life while making a wonderful gift of restored sight. Many of our supporters ask their friends and relatives to make a donation to Orbis in lieu of flowers at a funeral or memorial service. This can help to transform the lives of people around the world for many years to come. For any enquiries, please call our Donor Services Department at 2595 0263.
