Orbis World Sight Day – Evert Badge Saves Sight!

Globally, uncorrected refractive errors like myopia account for over 80% of visually impaired children of school-age. In India, where over 1.6 million children aged 5-15 are afflicted with such problems, Orbis is doing its utmost to eliminate the societal disadvantages.

Many potential eye diseases are linked to chronic diseases such as diabetes. Due to our world’s aging population, experts estimate that incidences of visually impairment worldwide are on track for a threefold increase . To try and stop this crisis before it’s too late, Orbis has pioneered its Cybersight online teaching platform. The initiative’s ultimate aim is to make teaching consultations more readily available for medical professionals in otherwise inaccessible locations.

Trachoma is a major cause of blindness in Ethiopia, blighting the lives of some 21,000,000 sufferers – most of them women and children. In battling trachoma, Orbis has now distributed over 28,000,000 doses of Zithromax, an antibiotic that is helping safeguard the sight of over 15,000,000 at-risk Ethiopians.

Even inexpensive basics such as disinfectants, eyedrops, scalpel blades and surgical syringes are all vital tools in the global war on blindness. By supporting us, you will ensure we can continue to empower our frontline teams with everything they need to save and restore sight.
