Orbis ‧ Hip Shing Hong Flying Eye Hospital See Love Tour 2024

Orbis’s legendary Flying Eye Hospital will soon return to Hong Kong to launch a 9-day "Orbis ‧ Hip Shing Hong Flying Eye Hospital See Love Tour 2024”. In addition to enabling us to personally thank generous long-term local donors, the stopover will offer Hongkongers a rare crew’s-eye-view of the plane’s state-of-the-art sight-saving facilities.

A Potent Symbol in the Battle to Save Sight

In each country they have visited, our Flying Eye Hospital’s crew have shared the latest eye care knowledge and skills with their local counterparts. Frequently weloming prime ministers, presidents and health department officials aboard, the plane remains an eloquent advocate for developing quality ophthalmic health services that are easily accessible by all. While overseas, onboard medical teams partner local hospitals in establishing a clearer picture of urgent eye care issues and how to resolve them. Strengthening national health policies and upgrading local doctors’ skills, each visit plays a vital role in transforming the lives of needlessly blind people who were previously denied quality ophthalmic care. Equally importantly, the Flying Eye Hospital helps promote sustainable development by forging long-lasting global bonds.

Celebrating the Flying Eye Hospital’s eagerly awaited return to Hong Kong, the tour will kick off with a Thursday February 22nd opening ceremony at the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited apron. It is expected that some 3,200 registered individuals board the plane and inspect cutting-edge facilities such as its classroom and operating, recovery and laser treatment rooms during its 9-day stay. Everyone taking the tour will also be able to glean unique insights into Orbis' global vision-saving work by hearing patient stories and chatting to crew members and volunteers from different countries.

With Love From Hong Kong

To further enhance public awareness of blindness prevention, the Flying Eye Hospital will feature prominently in traditional and social media campaigns and public lectures. As glaucoma is a growing problem amongst elderly Hongkongers and the city currently lacks routine screening, crew members will also stress the need for vigilance. Representatives of various business organizations, schools and other sectors will also be invited to come along and learn how to encourage youngsters to take better care of their sight.

Once the Orbis ‧ Hip Shing Hong Flying Eye Hospital See Love Tour 2024 concludes, the plane will take off on the next leg of its global sight-saving mission. Places where its volunteer ophthalmologists will visit and train doctors at Orbis partner hospitals include Mongolia and Bangladesh. With its proven philosophy of emphasizing the practical application of newly shared skills, the Flying Eye Hospital is set to continue lighting the world’s darkest corners for many, many years.
